Many colors of Zion

I’ve been really busy (doesn’t this sound familiar?). I’ve been real busy doing my favorite things such as taking trips, caring for Taiwan, spending time with my family, meeting up with friends, plus painting!!! Painting!!! And more painting!!!
In the past few months I’ve finished more paintings than I normally produce, because I have some deadlines [...]

Monumental leap

The joy is indescribable. I made a monumental leap in my painting tonight! I am so excited right now that I don’t think I can fall asleep tonight!
Lately I’ve been doing lots of reading, thinking, reflecting, and listening to other artists. I have a critique group and that really helped too. After weeks of meditating [...]

In a show

The very fact that I haven’t wrote much about anything else but about this painting repeatedly signifies that I have been very, very busy.
And, frankly, I am angry at the same time about many things too.
But here’s that painting again, hanging on the wall of Gallery SoHo in Pomona and wearing a “second place” ribbon. [...]

J’ai fini le tableau

Despite all odds (there were a lot of them), I finished this painting two days ago. Due to a deadline, I signed it when it was still wet. It’s in the trusful hands of a friend now, to be delivered to a small local gallery for a small show which will run for the rest of the [...]

Making progress

I thought life after the wedding was going to be more relaxed… wrong!!!
It actually got busier and I feel tired a lot more easily these days. There’s too much distractions in both my working and personal lives to prevent me on concentrating on getting a task done. Simple things such as finish reading a book, or [...]

Little brave steps

I am experimenting with this painting.
Freer, bolder brush strokes, no pencil sketches, more design-oriented versus subject-oriented. More brave marks on shadowy foreground directly with local colors.
So far it’s going well.
This is a 22″ x 28″ oil on canvas. Loosely based on a photo I took in my neighborhood. Title will be determined upon completion.
If this [...]

Art show

It has been a while since the last time I wrote about my paintings, but the fact is that despite all the wedding activities, I did not slow down on painting at all. I’ve finished several nice paintings, and been in two art shows so far this year. I am quite a harsh critic on [...]

Winter art exhibition

2008 really consisted of some fine moments that deserves to be documented before 2009 gets too busy. Last month, I was part of an art exhibition with the Taiwanese American Art Association.
I heard about the group a couple of years ago and had attended their previous exhibitions. The group is consisted of mostly older, and [...]

My joy

Too many things going on recently and there isn’t enough time to write about half of them. But, here’s a long overdue on my painting update.
Presenting a few newer works…

Title: Dancing Orchids
Media: Oil on Canvas
Size: 30″ x 24″
This one was a gift to my mom, although I will “borrow” it for one art show. It was painted based [...]

Chasing that goal

A year ago, I made up my mind to REALLY get back to painting. At that time I had just completed my term as a beauty queen and was freed from a lot of obligations, and I decided that it was absolutely time to end my 5-year hiatus as an artist.
But, it wasn’t easy to paint again [...]
