Wedding — the last minute preparations
Before I write the full write up of my wedding day, I’d like to record the crazy last minute preparations. Years down the road, I’d like to re-read this entry and have a good laugh about it. 
Although I felt I did my best to do things early, I was still caught in surprise the last very intense two days before the wedding. It was … largely my own doing, for I insisted on personalizing things, plus being a little different, plus being a bit of a perfectionist, with the details.
First was the wedding favors. After looking through tons of different wedding favors and consulting John about various options, plus weighting our budget, we decided to go with edible favors, and that lead me to decide on — chocolate squares.
I ordered them online. The whole favor consisted of a chocolate square, a paper box in ivory color, silver hearts, and customized lavender-color ribbons with our names and wedding date printed in silver.
I placed the order well in advance. However, the package arrived WITHOUT the silver hearts. I had to call the company to request them to ship the silver hearts, and that put an additional ten days of delay on actually assembling the favors despite the fact that the company said they were going to ship it out with next day air.
At the end, the favors were assembled in a rush, and it was pretty much all done by my sister Josephine as I was literally running around in the house arranging too many things such as the table signs, adding last minute guests, practicing our first dance, picking up a special guest at the airport, getting my dad measured for his rental suit plus matching vest (so last mintue because he didn’t arrive from Taiwan until the last minute), picking up our wedding program, calling the vendors, making sure my parents are not confused (that was difficult)…. etc and etc. My sister put together 270 wedding favors in one day! Oh I can’t thank her enough!
Then there was the gift box. I made up my mind very early on to create a three-tierd gift box featuring a large box at the base, and two smaller boxes on top. I had it all planned out in my mind that the boxes were to be wrapped in my wedding colors, and adorned with the prettiest ribbons I could find. The largest box at the bottom would have an opening that’s big enough for envolopes, so our guests could drop their cards and cash gifts into this box.
This is kind of new, right?
I didn’t want to spend $45 on a genuine white box to use only for one time, so I was fully determined to make a unique one myself, using boxes I found around the house.
Well, things got crazy, and although I assembled the boxes and wrapping materials days in advance, I didn’t actually have time to wrap it until the day before. It was done in a huge rush with help of my wonderful friend/bridesmaid Erin (who was also the special guest I picked up from the airport).
The result? Hm… I think it looks cute! Although many guests mistaken it as gifts rather than gift box, but luckily I had assigned another real good friend as our trusted gift box caretaker, and she did a great job showing our guests what the boxes’ true function was.
Now let me talk about the real insanity — the 250+ tiny origami cranes that I made out of 1.5″ x 1.5″ little square papers that I made ENTIRELY BY MYSELF! Yay! I was so proud of myself! And yes, it took me a while to fold all these cranes.
I made them in four colors - light lavender, blue, periwinkle, and purple. What were they for?
Answer: place cards.
What we did was that we used silver, heavy duty paper as the base. We folded them so they could stand on their own. Then, for each place card, we glued a piece of ivory-color paper with the guest’s name printed on it, then we attach a paper crane on it using hot glue. Viola! There, you have a cute place card!
It sounds easy, but the actual work took a lot more time than anticipated. The whole mission involved John, my sister, my bridesmaid Joy, John’s friends Steve and Lilian, plus me to accomplish. I was very happy with the product, and many guests raved about the idea too.
Nevertheless, I was too busy to remember that I should take a picture of all the place cards before handing them all to our site coordinator, so now I can only rely on pictures our guests’ posted on facebook. Here’s how the place cards looked at the end.

Congratulations to the Clinton Family. If you can afford to give your daughter a lavish wedding so be it. I hope Chelsea cherishs her day for years to come. Who are we to questions how the Clintons spend their money. They have given so much in time and money to the U.S. and other countries - it’’s not our position to question why. The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.
