Our Wedding Day — full write up (part 1)
Please tell me that it is completely normal to feel exhausted for weeks after the wedding, or else I’ll feel too old! After our wedding, I felt tired for three full weeks! Now I am finally almost fully recovered from months of stress and weeks of exhaustion, I am ready to write about the wedding day in detail.
Date: April 11th, 2009.
Location: South Coast Winery, Temecula, California.
8:30am - 10:00am
We stayed in a villa suite in the winery the night before. I woke up in John’s arms, feeling indescribly excited! The day had finally come! I’ll be his wife, and the happiest woman on earth! I was so gleefully happy that the voluminous thick clouds outside the window didn’t bother me much. It was quite windy and cold too! But, ”at least it’s better than the pouring rain we had at our rehearsal the day before”, I thought. We had been keeping a watch on the weather report for weeks, so the cloudy weather wasn’t a suprise. It wasn’t ideal, but I was determined to be the happiest bride regardless. Rain or shine, it was the day that John and I will become husband and wife. Rain or shine, it was going to be a perfect day!
(By the way, if it has rained, we did have a back-up plan ready. Luckily we didn’t need to execute the back-up plan.)
At 9am, I kissed John for a short goodbye as I go to the spa for my first-ever manicure experience. Yes, it was my very first time ever having my nails done by a professional. I figure my wedding day is THE day to do it.
10:00am - 2:00pm
The makeup artist, my mom, John’s mom, Josephine (my sister, maid of honor), and Erin (bridesmaid) all arrived in our villa suite. Immediately, make up and hair session begins. At this time John retrivedto the other half of the suite where — a huge room with comfortable couch, TV, dinning table, and bathroom. That’s the room the guys used to get ready while the girls occupied the bedroom side of the suite.
The order of getting ready was 1. maid of honor. 2. bridesmaid. 3. mother of the groom. 4. mother of the bride. 5. bride. Everything was scheduled to be done the time the photographer arrives.
My two other bridesmaids, Yvonne and Joy, arrived around 1pm.
Look at this gorgeous picture of them! From left to right: Joy (my community service friend), Josephine (my sister, maid of honor), Yvonne (my friend from work), Erin (my childhood friend who saved her year worth of vacation days, and travelled from Taiwan, for this occasion!)
2:00pm - 4:30pm
The photographer arrived at 2pm and took pictures of me as I put on last finishing touches. At this time, the videographer had already started filming, and the florist was hard at work already too. And then… it drizzled!!! It was within an hour to our outdoor, garden-setting wedding ceremony, and dark clouds had turned into light drizzled!!!
Ah… perfect.
But, I was calm. There was noting I could do and I was going to be a happy bride nonetheless. I breathed slowly, feeling all air molecules enter through my body, and just living the moment of pure happiness.
Meanwhile, as the girls had our photo session outside the villa, more people, such as our dads, the groomsmen, flower girls, and ring bearers arrived. Most of them gathered in the guy’s side of the suite as they let me have room for peace. They probably thought I must be nervous, but I wasn’t. Our guestbook attendents and ushers also arrived. As they came to see me, they were surprised by how calm I was. But I was like “I am just going to enjoy every moment no matter what! So I will not get nervous!”
We did real good traffic control so that John and I didn’t see each other before the ceremony. In fact, he had no clue what my gown looks like too.
I lost track of time, but I knew it was getting closer to 4pm — our scheduled ceremony time. Our site coordinator came to tell me that the ceremony will NOT start on time because guests were just arriving. There was a huge accident on the 15 freeway, causing horrible delay in traffic.
After the wedding, John told me that he got worried at that point, because it was our ceremony time already and as he waited out there, he saw only about 20 guests. We were missing another 220 guests…. After the wedding I also heard from some friends that the traffic was so congested that it took some of them well over three hours to get there from the Los Angeles area!!!
But I at that time was totally calm…. of course, not having a clock in view helped too.
