2009 Taiwan Trip — Can I play with your dogs?
Sometimes mom is very weird in an amusing way, and sometimes, I benefit from it.
The story goes like this. She travels between Taiwan and the U.S. a lot, and no matter where she is, she has the habit of taking afternoon walks. While taking a walk in our neighborhood in Taitung, Taiwan, she discovered that there’s this family who has gorgeous, gorgeous white Pomeranian dogs. Because our family loves Poms (we’ve had many in the past), and because she’s a very bold person, my mom approached the homeowner who are strangers and asked them “can I play with your dogs?”
The homeowner happily said “yes”, so, ever since that first encounter, my mom frequently invites herself over to play with their dogs, without even knowing their names! This went on for more than two years. I am guessing that throughout all this time, the homeowner probably thinks of my mom as “that funny lady”.
A bit of background info first. My family is a dog family and we always have a strong special liking for Pomeranian dogs. Of all people in my family, I am the one that love Pomeranians the most. I just adore them to pieces!!! Their looks, the fluffy round body, small feet, doll face, cute ears, attention needy temperment… I love everything about them! My family had many Poms in the past, and since then, I’ve raised several other breeds (currently I have a Lasha Apso), but still, I honestly still like Poms the best.
Now lets fast foward to May, 2009, when I was in Taiwan for those follow up wedding receptions. We had just finished menu tasting for our banquet that night, and it was already almost 11pm when we drove home. It was late; it was hot; we were all in one car and feeling tired. All of a sudden came my mom’s zealous voice directing my dad to pull over right away, because we were passing the home of the cute Pomeranians, and she just had to show me those cute dogs right away.
“Can we wait till tomorrow?” I asked. Although I love Pomeranians, I thought it was not a good timing to check out the dogs. At that time, the metal door was already half-way rolled down, signaling that the residents were about to go to bed.
“But there’s still light inside!” My mom said as she bended over to check the interior. Then, before anyone could stop her, she knocked the door already. “Can I play with your dogs?” She asked the stranger at 11pm.
“Yes, of course, come on in!” The lady of the house was so nice. We still don’t know her name …
Just like that, I entered a stranger’s living room. As soon as I did, a white furball comes running to us and I realized why my mom raved so much about their dogs, and why she insisted that she must show me those dogs. They are toooooooooo darn cute!!! In fact, they are so cute that I couldn’t stop thinking about them for the rest of the trip (even till today), so I consider this one of the highlights of the trip.
Meet Nio-Nio. She’s a very alert girl and was barking non-stop upon seeing us. I don’t blame her. It was late. But even though she was barking, she also had that adorable smile on her doll face and was wagging her tail the whole time.
Isn’t she a cutie? I love her beautiful coat, and that sweet doll face! Aw…. my heart melts…
Since Nio-Nio barked at us, her master told her to go “stand at the corner” like a little kid that’s being disciplined. And she did! Look! Oh I can’t get over how cute that smile is!
But Nio-Nio warmed up to us very fast and let me hold her soon afterwards.
Now, this cutie is Nio-Nio’s mom. Her name is Cho-Cho, which means “little ball” in Mandarin. She is a darn cute white furball.
Oh my gosh, who can say “no” to that face?
I was so happy to hold two of them at once! Their coats were so soft too!
Although it has been two months now, I still keep their pictures in my camera and I still look at their cute pictures very frequently. Too bad I couldn’t steal them! But, to make up for that, my sweet husband has agreed that when we are ready, we can get a Pomeranian as a second pet. Yay! I can’t wait! I really can’t wait! Although I love my Lasha Apso whole heartily, I want to have a Pom again!
I am already thinking of a name for our future furball princess!

I love Poms too! My family had a few in Taiwan but it was after I left Taiwan….
I once return to Taiwan and got a chance to play with the cute Poms that we had. I still love them! Too bad my family couldn’t have them for long for several reasons. I once asked my husband if we can get a Pom too, but he said that we are all too busy to keep our garden beautiful, he is afraid of handling a ‘live’ animal in our home…. Too bad. But if you have one, I’ll definitely play yours just like your mom’s cute behavior! Ha ha ha~

You can volunteer at a local shelter. They always need dog walkers and someone to help train the dog. Just google it and find the closest shelter or ASPCA.

I’d pay for GoDaddy Grid hosting and develop a domain name. It’s very cheap and less stressful to develop your own stuff. But be warned you can’t just learn HTML, there are problems with the language, such as it doesn’t position elements other than centering or left or right. You have to pick up CSS with it which is not so hard. Then you might wanna make animations with Javascript or Flash.
