Honeymoon in Maldives — Mr. & Mrs. Miyake
The story goes like this. The resort publishes a newsletter everyday, containing news of what’s going on on the island. I believe it was our first night there, there’s a heading in the newsletter that read “Come be the guests of Mr. & Mrs. Miyake”. It turns out that there was a “traditional Maldivian-style” wedding next day on a nearby deserted island, to unite a Japanese couple. The ceremony was to be held in the afternoon, ending at sunset.
The idea of going to a uninhibited island to witness a “traditional Maldivian-style” wedding sounded all too enticing, so….. John and I became THE ONLY TWO GUESTS at Mr. and Mrs. Miyaki’s very small wedding. Oh come on, don’t people read on their vacations?????
Anyhow, I didn’t want to “crash” someone’s wedding without doing some work for them, so I “volunteered” to be their photographer on the whimp, and took loads of pictures. Later on, I gave them my amateurish pictures on a portable disk, and they really liked it. Mrs. Miyaki told me that my shots were a lot better than those from the resort’s photographer. Yay!
Here are the pictures:
The soon-to-be Mrs. Miyaki walks towards the dhoni (traditional Maldivian boat) for a cruise to the deserted island. We took the same dhoni with her.
The dhoni was all decorated for the occasion.
Upon approaching the deserted island where the ceremony was to be held, we jumped into a small boat which takes us to the sand. Here is the happy groom taking a picture of the bride as she approached the island.
Here comes the bride!
She was carried to the shore so that the bridal gown won’t get wet. The lady in green was the Japanese translator from the resort. Other resort staff included 3 ministers, a 4-people drummingband, 4 waiters, and 1 person that was the photographer/videographer/supervisor of every proceeding. There was no family members present, definitely very different from our wedding.
The ceremony started with the couple exchangnig a necklace made of baby coconuts (I think) under an arch of coconut leaves.
After that, the couple were lead onto a path, into a retangular area fenced by coconut branches for the ceremony.
There they got seated across from the three ministers. At this time the band stopped playing. The three ministers read them scriptures in different languages, and talked about what marriage means. I only understood the English one. It was a scripture from the Bible about marriage (so I don’t know how “traditional Maldivian” this is. It must have been tailored to suit western clients)
After all scriptures were read, the couple exchanged wedding rings. I don’t know if this is traditional Maldivian either. :P But, there was no repeat-after vows, no saying of “I do”, and no “no you may kiss the bride”.
There was champaign toasts after exchanging the rings.
Then, the couple were presented a marriage certificate. The whole ceremony probably lasted 20 minutes.
Now onto the food! For the reception, sweet coconut in shell plus this very delicious-looking cake were served.
Yum…. doesn’t it look to die for?
These looked so cute! They were really sweet/refreshing too!
We had the coconut juice, but did not stay for the cake because John didn’t want to overdo it. We took a small boat back to the resort island with half of the wedding crew.
Here’s us on the boat back.
Since I was a little disappointed that we didn’t have the cake, John brought me a drink to made up for it. :P We sat right on soft white sand, overlooking the ocean as the sun was about to set.
I loved the sunset colors.
Beautiful beachfront bar.
As we sat there enjoying the romantic moment, Mr. & Mrs. Miyaki returned by dhoni with the band playing. They walked down the jetty, and were greeted “congratulations” by all the other vacationers at the bar. They saw me and asked why didn’t we stay for the cake? Ah they were such nice people.
With glorious sunet as the backdrop, the newly wed approached their overwater villa.

I’ll always remember watching sunset and sipping drinks on this beach with John.
We ran into Mr. and Mrs. Miyaki on the island many times during the days after their wedding. They were always so happy to see us. We once got seated several tables next to them at dinner. They came over, greetedus, and gave us fresh fish (cooked) that Mr. Miyaki had caught. I gave them the photos of their wedding on a portable disk, and when Mrs. Miyake returned it, she attached a origami crane with “Thank You” written on it. Since then, she and I have written each other emails several times too.

I smoked for forever. I realize it injures my overall health therefore I wish to quit smoking though this has been difficult. None of the quitting tips helped me. Then I heard about the smokeless cigarette. It’s basically changed my life. No more sucking in toxic chemicals feels fantastic!

I have learned giving up smoking will be harder than you can imagine. I began cigarette smoking while I was in my teens. It was the worst wrong move I’ve made. At present 20 years later and I have lung disease. I tested out each one of the quitting techniques yet not a single thing did any good. My last try is a e-cigarettes in the end.

I kicked the habit a week ago and it is really starting to hit me today. My wife tells me I can’t handle it however I am so focused about this I will be successful. recently I started experianceing painful sensations inside my gut and I kinda need a puff. I cannot give in as I am stopping smoking for our little ones. I am blessed to have the e cigarette. It really has been beneficial if you ask me.

- all from the same account with our award-winning PureDeal platform. Learn how to spread bet with IG Index through our free TradeSense education programme, or view one of our free online semiIn my last post I spoke about the possibility of opening a second account. This may not be as important to you when you are just starting out and have a low level of capital but do keep it in mind. There are a couple of reasons why you should consider it if you are to take your trading seriously. The most successful traders out there have a number of accounts. The first reason for this is the ability to get the best quote. Financial Spread Betting is hard. Anything you can use to your advantage is great, even a half a point on the spread will make a difference.By having more than one Financial Spread Betting account you will be able to read multiple quotes at the same time (with a little practice!). You will then be able to trade of the better one.It will take time for you to reach this level but if you can trade this way then you will be ahead of a lot of traders. The second reason is contingency. These days spread betting trading platforms are a lot more stable. They don’t hang as much and they are very rarely down. The spread betting companies put a lot of time and money into making sure that this doesn’t happen. But…What if it does? What if the financial markets are going crazy and you want to trade? When you log on…whoops…you can’t log on.
