Chocolate overflow

The holiday season is when everybody we dealt with at work show their appreciation towards us. Every year, our workplace is always full of ample gifts of food from contractors, developers, consultants, attornys… and whatnot. This year is no different. Each department had lots of baskets full of food. While we received lots of hams and fruit platter last year, this year’s gifts belong mostly in one category — chocolate.

Chocolate, chocolate, and more chocolate… chocolate in the break room, chocolate in the conference room, chocolate on top of cabients, chocolate on the counter… chocolate everywhere. Hershey, Lindt, Ghirardelli, Godiva, Ferrero Rocher, Harry & David, Mars, Walkers, Guylian…. you name it, we’ve got it! For a good two weeks prior to Christmas, I see people at work grazing from department to department, for the vast array of candy selection. The amazing thing was… all the trays were empty by the time we left for the holidays! That can’t be good, right? But then again, it’s the holiday season, why not indulge? This is the season to for irresponsible eating I guess.

In a way I am also responsible for such irresponsible eating by adding my choice of chocolate to people’s bellies. We have an informal custome of gift exchange each year. This year, not knowing that we were going to receive so much chocolate as gifts, I brought small boxes of ethel chocolate from Las Vegas for my colleagues at work…. very uncool I thought… but I think they enjoyed it nonetheless because that is GOOD chocolate.

Next year, I’ll come up with something more cool. Perhaps a one-of-a-kind, limited-edition desktop calendar that can only be produced by yours truely. That is… if I work hard enough.

What gets me most excited is this wall of Christmas cards from people we’ve helped throughout the year. It’s such a satisfying feeling to see new cards coming in each day, and know that people do appreciate us even though sometimes, some people may not be so nice.

New painting

To the left is my newest painting that I finished late last night. The dimer, yellow lighting at home did not allow true colors to be captured, however, you get the gist of it. I am quite happy with this painting. It’s a good come-back effort after not having painted for more than 5 years.

This will be one of the three paintings that I’ll present at the final critique of my class tomorrow night. I am eager to find out what comments I’ll get from the instructor.

Since I already have a BA degree in Art, I really don’t have the need to be in a painting class at a community college — I really don’t need to make that kind of effort to be in class after a long day at work. But, I want to make a serious effort to get back into painting, and to improve my skills so I can be the kind of painter I envision I am capable of. I really, really do love to paint.

I think I’ve achieved my goal here. I don’t feel rustic anymore, and am ready to paint a lot more from this point on, and to embrace different subject matters. In fact, I’ve registered for another painting class for the Spring semester! Can’t wait!
